Daisybush "Mix" (spoon daisy)
Spoon daisy Star-Of-The-Veldt (mix of Daisybush colours) - Osteospermum ecklonis L.
Amazing inflorescences - multi-coloured rays around a small dark disk!
Plants 30-35 cm is high.
This is a perennial shrub with a strongly branching erect stem and obovate, serrated leaves along the edge. In regions with cold winters, the heat-loving Cape daisy does not survive cold winters outdoors and is therefore used as an annual.
It blooms very profusely from mid-June to September.
They are used in groups in mixborders and flower beds, the composition will be excellent in the container version of this glossy "chamomile" solo. Plant height about 30 cm. Prefers sunny areas with well-drained fertile soil. Seeds are sown in March-April in boxes with light sandy soil. At a soil temperature of +20°C shoots appear in 7-10 days. Seedlings contain at a moderate temperature. Seedlings are planted in open ground at the end of May (planting distance 20-25 cm).
After transplanting hardened seedlings into the garden, it is advisable to water the young plants, then the grown osteospermum becomes more drought-resistant and cold-resistant. Feeding the plant during the flowering period contributes to better growth and the formation of a large number of buds. Removing faded buds also causes increased flowering. With periodic watering, osteospermums successfully endure hot, dry summers.
When the summer heat ends, the osteospermum grows strongly and blooms especially abundantly in autumn. It is unfortunate that the period of such violent flowering of the osteospermum is short - after all, the cold will come soon ...
Despite the fact that osteospermum is thermophilic, adult strong plants easily tolerate autumn frosts and even mild frosts. In autumn it is always sad to say goodbye to garden osteospermum, which has a lush and healthy appearance - I really want to extend the period of its life and flowering. And, here, container osteospermum grown on a glazed balcony retain its decorative effect and bloom much longer. In addition, the mother liquor can be stored in a bright, cool place in winter, periodically slightly moistening the soil.
